Is the u3a a political organisation ?

I became chair at the AGM in March 2025, I was faced with the option of either volunteering or the possibility of our u3a closing. As I had only recently joined this u3a I thought that closure was not an option I liked.
I am a current member of the Modern Jive group, the Mainly men group and A4T. I just wish that I had time available to join other groups that interest me, or lead some if necessary.
I am also looking forward to meeting many more people.

Brief History : -
First established in Wye during 2010, Ashford Wye and District U3A subsequently moved to Ashford as more members joined from the Ashford area.
U3A is part of a wider network both national and international. Indeed, it was founded in France as an extramural university activity based in university towns and cities. It then began in this country in the 1980’s and today there are about 1,057 branches with a total membership of around 450,000.

Feburary's Coffee Morning - Talk from the Blood Runners.
Service by Emergency Response Volunteers (SERV) Kent — better known as the Bloodrunners — is a dedicated local charity that has been supporting hospitals across Kent since 1993. Their volunteers deliver blood, blood products, samples for testing and other urgent medical items, 24 hours a day, completely free of charge, whenever and wherever they are needed.
On 25 February, we were delighted to welcome Trevor from the Bloodrunners to speak at Ashford, Wye and District u3a. His talk was fascinating, full of real‑life stories about the work the volunteers do, and it sparked plenty of lively discussion among our members.
